Hypnosis Facts
I found these facts on
The Path Finder
website and thought they were pretty good.
Why invent the wheel?
The Facts about Hypnosis
- Going into a state of hypnosis is a very normal natural activity.
- Most people describe hypnosis as a restful state where they are still aware, in control,
but very relaxed, much like the twilight time before sleep. - A person hypnotized is aware of everything the hypnotist says at all times.
- The hypnotic subject will never forget anything, unless they agree to forget.
- Persons under hypnosis will always awaken from hypnosis easily.
- You cannot remain in hypnosis for more than several minutes unless you want to.
- Persons in hypnosis will remain in control of themselves at all times.
- No person can be hypnotized without their consent, cooperation and willingness.
- No one can be made to do anything they are morally opposed to during hypnosis
(in fact most people appear more ethical during hypnosis) - Hypnosis is not a miraculous power.
- Hypnosis merely enables your mind to access and use your own natural healing and
physical abilities, to assist in healing or physical accomplishment. - Hypnosis allows your subconscious mind to accept positive suggestions
- Hypnotic suggestions can change or release unwanted behavior patterns.
- Hypnosis can strengthen any part of your personality or ability that you desire.
- Hypnosis actually strengthens the will and improves the powers of the mind.
More Facts About Hypnosis
- All hypnosis is self induced hypnosis, but external suggestion can trigger it.
- Hypnosis is not like sleep, nor is it like a zombie state or total unconsciousness.
- Hypnosis cannot make someone do something they don't want to do.
However:
- In Hypnosis a subject can release subconscious programs that control them.
- In deep Hypnosis a subject can stimulate or increase healing ability.
- In Hypnosis a subject can improve or change any physical or mental ability.
- In hypnosis a subject can modify or change their emotional state or feelings.
- Hypnosis can release causes for fears or phobias, then permanently release them.
- Hypnosis can create or increase positive moods or feelings (joy, enthusiasm, etc.).
- Hypnosis can assist or accelerate any natural body reactions or ability.
- Hypnosis can permanently change habit patterns (ie: remove bad habits).
- Hypnosis can help release unwanted patterns like post traumatic stress reactions.

Jeckyl or Hyde- whose side are they on?
Hypnosis as health care quietly gains ground
BY MSNBC.COM
The last decade has produced a number of studies suggesting benefits
My husband found this great article titled as if "THE" people in the know (whoever they are) are actually starting to take a look at the benefits of hypnosis.
I am all excited! Wooohhoooo! Finally! Myths are going to be busted and the western medical world is going to expose the truth about the health benefits of hypnosis!!!!....or are they?
Crawling up on my soap box about this.
These are MY opinions. You don't have to agree but I would just like for you to take a look from both sides.
Below is the link to the article that I am hoping you will take the time to read in it's entirity. It ALMOST admits to the wonderful health benefits to using hypnosis, but I've noticed every chance they get, they throw some half information in there and contradict themselves which leaves me wondering.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44206689/ns/health-health_care/#.TlGES4LbxqM
Here are a few sections of the article I find confusing.
In 1987, Marilyn Bellezzo was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a disorder that was, for her, debilitating.
"I was housebound," Bellezzo said. She spent hours curled up on the bathroom floor, suffering from abdominal pain and diarrhea. "I had to raise my children through the bathroom door," said the now 59-year-old resident of Glen Ellyn, Ill.
Over the next 12 years, Bellezzo tried medications and diets, to no avail. Then as a last resort, she started listening to audio tapes designed to treat IBS through hypnosis.
They made a difference. Now, she says her symptoms are virtually gone.
"I went from that level of severity to just having an occasional episodes lasting a few minutes," Bellezzo said.
Isn't that GREAT!? I actually have been one of those people laying on the bathroom floor in pain trying to drag myself to my feet to take care of children. I too have "cured" myself using hypnosis after doctors were unable to help me except to prescribe drugs that made me sicker than I started. This is one of the reasons I got interested in hypnosis to begin with.
According to a 2008 review article in the journal Nature, "there is an emerging body of evidence that hypnotherapy is clinically effective for the treatment of IBS." Several well-designed studies have shown long-term benefits for patients, including reductions of abdominal pain, anxiety and depression, the researchers said.
Look- more good news! Well- designed studies showing long- term health benefits beyond just IBS.
Hypnosis is not magic — it alleviates symptoms, but doesn’t cure disease.
Wait...What? In the same article it says- yeah! People are getting better with hypnosis and the side effect is...GOOD HEALTH.
But that isn't a cure? Then....medicine doesn't cure anything either right? And medicine has negative side effects so long, commercials have to rent an extra minute of air time with a Guiness Book of World Records Fastest Talkers to list them all.
I'm not saying that hypnosis is magic- although sometimes it seems like it when you have been in pain for years and you find a way to relieve it or you can suddenly change a life long phobia into a new hobbie in less than an hour or create new thoughts that allow you to change your life in a whole new direction.
it alleviates symptoms, but doesn’t cure disease.
Well, just speaking for myself, alleviating painful chronic symptoms and learning how to stop them from coming back was worth it to me- even if that isn't considered a cure. And what the heck IS a "Cure" anyway?
And although not everyone can be hypnotized, (Another half truth)studies show 70 to 80 percent of chronic pain patients experience pain relief that lasts for hours, Jensen said.
And for chronic pain suffers, it rarely eliminates their pain, Jensen said.
Okay guys- which is it? 70-80% DO get relief or hypnosis Rarely eliminates their pain? Who is Jensen? Why do they quote her contradicting herself in the same article?
In 2007, Schnur and colleagues conducted a study of 200 breast cancer patientswho needed surgery. About half underwent a 15-minute hypnosis session before their surgery; the other half talked with a psychologist about their thoughts and feelings pre-surgery.
Patients who underwent hypnosis required less sedative during the surgery, and because they were more relaxed, their surgeries lasted10 fewer minutes on average. They experienced less pain, nausea, fatigue and emotional upset following the surgery, Schnur said. The researchers calculated the hospital could save about $770 per cancer patient by employing hypnosis before surgery.
Isn't that great? Saving money AND feeling better!
Do you know anyone who has been offered hypnosis as part of their surgery package? NO? When the doctors tell you about your anesthesia do the say-"by the way, over a hundred years ago, they did surgeries with hypnosis only and that there are some today that opt for chemical anesthesia as a back up to hypnosis"?
So, I guess my point is, that this article insinuates by it's title that they have found evidence that hypnosis IS helpful but it is written in a fashion to inject doubt into each positive.
I question whether this is an accident or a well planned ploy to actually discredit the benefits of hypnosis or is it the writer's way of protecting themselves from actually having an opinion.
Well, I guess by now you realize-
I don't have a problem giving my opinion on this subject.
There are thousands and thousands of people who will tell you that they have lost weight, quit smoking, eliminated phobias, insomnia & nail biting, lowered their blood pressure, relieved chronic symptoms and much more using hypnosis. The side effect of using hypnosis is Better Health mentally, physically and emotionally.
Standard Western medicine has it's place and hypnosis should be right along side.
But that's just my opinion.

Hit a Worker
Say what you mean and mean what you say.
I was taught that as a child and it has served me well,
way before I ever learned about
NLP -Neuro Linguistic Programing
"I'm NOT being negative"
is a statement I often hear
that makes me laugh.
The fact that it's a double negative statement
is not equal to the mathematical cousin
creating a positive statement.
Your subconscious takes things literally and
tries to make sense out of the limited information
it is given in sound bites.
When you say-"Don't you Dare run around that pool!"
your mind will think- don't what?
DARE! RUN- around that pool!
It tends to ignore the negative and listen
to what you were talking about.
When you say WALK! Your mind instantly, clearly
understands the message.
Listen to what you ACTUALLY say,
not just what you meant to say.
One of my pet peeves is seeing signs
on the highway that tell you over and over again to
HIT A WORKER
Get fined $1,000.
I am pretty sure that's not
what they want you to do.
As a matter of fact
I'm guessing what they meant was:
Use Caution! Men at work!
Safety Fines of $1,000 issued
to careless drivers.
While distracted drivers are
flying by these signs with
their conscious minds on
everything BUT the road,
which is why there is a sign,
this message is being given
over and over again
to the subconscious!!!
Protect yourself!
Implant the idea now
that you will only accept
positive helpful thoughts
and messages.
Take a breath, close your eyes, say to your to yourself
several times:
I will only accept positive helpful thoughts and messages.
Allow yourself to become aware of how many negative messages surround you.
If you allow this suggestion to stay with you,
you will have a lot of fun recognizing all the silly
statements you see and hear on TV, radio and newspapers
that make no sense!
Feel free to share some of your favorites
with me!

Smokers have Amazing Minds
This might sound like a funny thing for a hypnotist to say but the truth is
smokers are walking puffing examples of how strong your thoughts are
and how those thoughts control your body.
Cigarettes have over 4000, yes 4000 chemicals in them.
51 are known to be carcinogenic.
Here are just a few.
| Chemical | Found in: |
| carbon monoxide | car exhaust |
| nicotine | bug sprays |
| tar | material to make roads |
| arsenic | rat poison |
| ammonia | cleaning products |
| hydrogen cyanide | gas chamber poison |
| cyanide | deadly poison |
| acetone | nail polish remover |
| butane | cigarette lighter fluid |
| DDT | insecticides |
| formaldehyde | to preserve dead bodies |
| sulfuric acid | car batteries |
| cadmium | used to recharge batteries |
| freon | damages earth's ozone layer |
| geranic acid | a fragrance |
| methoprene | a pesticide |
| maltitol | a sweetener not permitted to be used in foods in the U.S. |
| Sources: Dr. Joel Dunnington, Tobacco Almanac, Revised, May 1993. | |
Even knowing all this smokers have convinced themselves
that not only do they NEED to smoke...they LIKE IT!
The marketing programs for cigarette companies
make sure that everyone is told
over and over again that it's soooo
hard to stop smoking
that there is no way that they
could possibly stop smoking so they
shouldn't waste their time trying.

Can YOU be hypnotized?
YES.
YES. YES. YES!
Why am I so sure of myself?
Because I know for a fact that you already have been.
Let me share some facts with you.
Unless you are literally brain damaged, on drugs or have chosen specifically
to NOT allow yourself to go into a state of relaxation....
You definitely CAN be hypnotized.
Have you ever missed a turn while driving because you were
thinking about something else?
How did you step on the gas and brake
when your mind was on something else?
Have you ever laughed or cried at a movie?
Have you ever jumped at a movie when a monster
suddenly comes as you?
Why? Did you consciously think that a monster was REALLY going
to get you? Probably not.
But you allowed your imagination
to get involved
so you could really enjoy yourself.
Or have you been so involved in a TV show that you
didn't hear someone who was talking to you until they
shouted at you? Were you unconscious or asleep?
Were you temporarily deaf?
Or was your attention
focused somewhere else.....
Have you ever thought about some rude so and so who
did something to make you mad last month and even now
when you think about it you get all worked up?
Have you ever stared into a fire and gotten so relaxed you
just didn't want to blink?
Then you HAVE been hypnotized!
What? You say you went to a public show and you weren't picked?
You went to a hypnotist that read out of a book and it "didn't work" on you?
OR
You just KNOW YOU couldn't be hypnotized because your mind is too strong?
There is a reason for that.
The truth is-
You can do anything you put your mind to
once you understand how.
